What is a 5 Star Green Building?

What is a 5 Star Green Building?

If you’re looking for a way to show the world that your building is sustainable, look no further than the many green building certification programs that exist today. You can choose from a wide range of performance-based requirements, including those that target energy efficiency, materials, transportation, indoor quality, and more.

The Austin Energy Residential Green Building program rates homes on a number of different criteria, ranging from energy efficiency to water and material efficiency. It rates new and remodeled homes, as well as remodeled homes that are already ENERGY STAR certified. The program is managed by Austin Energy, and has inspired similar programs all over the country.

In the past fiscal year, the program rated 726 houses. Eighty-six of those received the highest rating of five stars. A fifth-star rating requires 60 to 74 points. A sixth-star rating requires 73 to 87 points. The goal of the program is to create a healthy environment for people.

The Green Star program is an internationally recognized sustainability rating system. It covers a broad range of building types, from offices to homes and everything in between. It assesses the sustainability of projects at various stages of their life cycle, from planning and design through to construction and operations.

The program is based on a series of metrics that are based on statistically representative models. The EPA’s ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager tool calculates a score based on the actual measured energy use of a building, along with data on weather and regional conditions.
