I have had quite a few people contact me about the picture that I am using in my header. It is one that I took at Lake Tahoe.
Here is another view of the lake that I took the same day. It is so awesome that you can be swimming in the lake and looking at snow on the mountains at the same time! Thanks to everyone who had said that they really liked the picture. Now on to the vinegar making!
My good blogging friend Lannae from Lannae’s Food and Travel was so kind and blessed me with some starter so that I could make us some homemade red wine vinegar. Lannae lives here in Nashville and was so sweet to make a special trip to the Strawberry Festival at the Produce Place to bring me some awesome starter that is 27 years old! How thoughtful is that? Not only did she bring me the starter but has helped me so much in knowing how to make it. I have made herb vinegars for years but never any wine vinegar.
You use the starter with about a half a bottle of red wine and a cup of water.Wrap the jar in a dark cloth and tie it at the top Then place it in a warm dark place for about a month. After the month if it is vinegary enough put some in a jar in the fridge to use to cook with, Add more red wine and a little water to continue your original mother. I am really excited about this. Thanks so much Lannae!!
Have you ever made your own wine vinegar? If so did you think it turned out better than what you buy at the store?
