Do You Look For Local?

The Produce Place in Nashville is one of the retail stores that carry our products. If you live in the area and have not shopped here you are in for a real treat! They sell produce but a whole lot more. I was there about a week ago and was looking at all of the fresh produce and thinking how great it will be when the local veggies will be coming in. I was also thinking that it has been hard the past few months to buy local products. Boy was I wrong!! I started walking around the store and everywhere I looked was local products. I just hadn’t been looking well enough before. Now I know that these aren’t technically local but I still consider Vadalia onions local since they come from our neighbors in Georgia. I had never seen Vadalia bulbs before.

The Corner Market Catering Company has local gumbo, soup, pasta salad and salsa.

Nobel Springs Dairy has such a great selection of fresh local cheese. This peppercorn goat cheese sounded really good.

La Hacienda has fresh local corn and flour tortillas that would be great with

This awesome local salsa!

They have a wonderful selection of local homemade breads.

Oh and local honey is a must! If you have never tried local honey you will be amazed at the difference between it and the regular store bought honey. There is just no comparison!!

This local Kombucha is awesome!!

Oh and to top it all off is some amazing Olive and Sinclair local Chocolate.Which is roasted right here in Nashville.

So you see I hadn’t been looking well enough for local products. Nashville is not as big as some of the cities that you all live.in and I am sure some of the larger cities have an even bigger variety to choose from if you just take the time to look.Even the smaller towns in our area have a lot of local products in their stores during the Winter months.Do you look for “local” in the Winter months and if so what are some of the items you purchase?

I love local foods and restaurants! So much better than chain. Have you ever tried local honey?

Oh we love local honey! There is just no comparison to it and the regular store bought honey.

When we moved from the burbs to downtown, we made a vow to shop the stores in our neighborhood and eat in the locally owned restaurants. We belong to a CSA in the summer. There are tons of stylish shops and boutiques, and luckily, we live within a mile of them. That makes me happy cause I have a new cruiser bike to run my errands. The only thing I need to drive to is the farm to pick up our produce.

I have never actively sought out local products, but I may need to keep my eyes peeled for offerings like these in the stores I shop at. :)

As much as I love buying locally I must admit I have been rather negligent after our first winter here when we found virtually nothing. I think part of my problem is my search was too narrow. I am finding lots of Indiana and Ohio products now but back then I was looking for things from within less than a 50 mile radius (our Alaska standard was 100 miles.) I will have to give this a try again.

All of the stuff looks so yummy. We try to buy local and have a much better time in the summer. I love the whole process not just the food. I enjoy the farmers market and talking with the farmers. It is a win win all around.

I love buying local whenever possible. Although, admittedly, I don’t think of it beyond my meat and produce. If it is at my farmer’s market though, I am usually very interested!

I try to buy locally whenever I can! I’m always hitting up the farmer’s market for produce and paying a little bit extra for local pastas and sauces when I find them! They always taste better than their industrial counterparts.

I haven’t been there in so long! But I love that place. Thanks for the reminder! I’ll try to stop by at some point soon.

And did you take some pictures of your own products on their shelves? To help me know what to look for when I stop by?

      Susan,
I love shopping at The Produce Place also. Almost everyone that works there uses our products so they would be glad to show you where they are. They are right up front by the cash register. They are having a Strawberry Festival in May that they have asked us to participate in so we will be there then. If you get a chance to come by I would love meeting you in person.

WOW – these look amazing. You have found a great place to shop it looks like. We love buying local too. First most everything is organically grown so I feel comfortable purchasing it. Second the product lasts so much longer because it isn’t shipped from so far away. A typical head of Romaine lettuce will last several weeks in my fridge from the farmers market – plus it’s HUGE. I never realized that what you normally buy at Earthfare or Wholefoods is actually the center of the lettuce because the outside leaves had gotten old. The outside is the BEST tasting! (Don’t get me wrong love all my fav grocery stores too). Look forward to hearing more from you.

What a great store to shop! I try to buy local if I can. I am looking forward to a very tiny Farmer’s Market here that opens soon. Can’t wait!

Love local stuff! Like you, I hadn’t looked much in the winter. Cool to know there’s so much stuff year-round!

    Have a great weekend!

I LOVE to support local. I don’t always manage it as I do have some favourites that are made by large manufacturers, but most of my fruit and veg comes from local farms, likewise meat. Eggs come from our own chooks; which is delightful! I’m so blessed where we live as there are lots of wonderfully talented local people growing produce and making things such as bread…

I love buying local too. The best place I’ve found here is the farmer’s market–I need to investigate if we have a store like this one, because I would go there all the time!

Love Produce Place! It is on my Saturday Morning errand run! The Corner Market stuff is delic.

Now that you mention it, I think I have a closed mind about how much local stuff we have available in our area. It is probably a lot more than I think. There is an organic, mostly locally grown co-op about 70 miles from us. I look forward to visiting it soon.
